Different types of hair loss

When losing more than 100 hairs a day over a longer period of time, one speaks of hair loss. Various causes can underlie hair loss. How advanced your hair loss is you will find out in your free appointment during the free hair analysis.

Androgenetic alopecia = hereditary hair loss
This type of hair loss is genetically predetermined and usually increases with age. In this case, the hair follicles develop a hypersensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which comes from the body's own hormone testosterone. DHT reduces the size of the hair follicles, limiting their ability to produce hair. As a result, hair falls out faster and grows back weaker and weaker until the hair root finally atrophies. Androgenetic alopecia often manifests itself in the form of receding hairline or tonsure, until it can eventually progress to semi- or full baldness.

Diffuse alopecia
The second most common cause of hair loss is diffuse alopecia. Reasons for the development of diffuse alopecia are hormonal fluctuations (e.g. discontinuation of the pill, pregnancy, lactation, menopause), side effects of medications, diseases, stress, nutrient deficiencies or incorrect hair care. Unlike androgenetic alopecia, diffuse hair loss manifests itself in thinning hair all over the scalp. The good news is that once the cause has been eliminated, the scalp and hair growth usually recover. Since it can take up to 12 months for hair to grow back, hair growth should be supported for complete regeneration.

Frequently asked questions

  • What form of hair loss do I have and how can it be treated?

    open /close

You will find out which form of hair loss is present in your case from our doctors during an initial, non-binding consultation. As part of this initial consultation, a medical examination of your scalp will also take place, which is based, among other things, on our HairMetrix procedure. In our HairMetrix procedure, special images of your scalp are taken. It is not necessary to cut your hair in order to do the hair scan. Thanks to fully automated analysis in real time, the results are available for immediate evaluation. Based on this initial examination, our doctor will recommend a suitable therapy for you and create an individual treatment plan for you.

  • At which point can only a hair transplant help?

    open /close

A [hair transplant](en/hair transplantation) is necessary when bald patches can no longer be treated in any other way. In some cases, when the hair is only thinning or brittle, a PRP treatment can already lead to the desired result.

  • How does PRP treatment affect the hair?

    open /close

Three good reasons speak for PRP:.

    1. PRP hair root treatment can reduce hair loss.
    2. shaky, thin, brittle hair can become dense, full and strong again following the therapy.
    3. transplanted hair is more likely to grow in a new place in combination with PRP hair root treatment.
  • Does PRP help with androgenetic and diffuse alopecia?

    open /close

Studies have scientifically proven that PRP autologous blood treatment shows significant improvement in both forms of hair loss. And this both in the quality and growth of the hair.
