Tips for Full and Thick Eyebrows

It is THE beauty trend of recent years: full brows. Whether on the red carpet, on Instagram or in adverts, bushy eyebrows are everywhere these days.

And rightly so, because thick brows bring a youthful radiance to our face, emphasise our facial expressions and, last but not least, protect our eyes from unwanted foreign bodies or sweat.

Unfortunately, we are not all blessed with perfect eyebrows, which is why we have compiled various beauty tips and tricks for full eyebrows in this article.

Causes of patchy eyebrows

There are all kinds of causes for patchy, thin brows or hair loss in the eyebrow region. In many cases, genetic predisposition is responsible – unfair, but that is the way it is.

A second, very common trigger for uneven, patchy eyebrows is long-term eyebrow plucking (or waxing). Unprofessional microblading can also lead to scarring of the area and inhibit the growth of the hair follicles.

Hair loss – including in the eyebrow region – can also occur as a result of illness or as a side effect of medication. Accidents and burns might cause irregularities in the eyebrows due to skin scarring.

But: no need to worry, fortunately there is an herb for every problem – quite literally, because these home remedies offer natural treatment options for increased eyebrow hair growth:

Natural home remedies for full eyebrows

Some of nature's miracle cures are known for their growth-promoting properties. Here is a brief summary of the most popular ones:

  • Castor oil

The nutrient-packed oil from the miracle tree not only favours eyelash growth, but also brow growth. Simply apply it to the desired areas in the evening and leave it on overnight. Gently wash off the next morning.

  • Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel is a real all-rounder for skin and hair and should not be missing from any beauty routine. The ingredient aloin has an anti-inflammatory and cooling effect on the skin (perfect after sunbathing).

Aloin moisturises the hair, repairing breakage and supporting hair growth. Comb the gel through your brows for a completely natural growth boost.

  • Onion juice

The homemade onion juice serum may not smell very pleasant, but the promised effect is well worth it. The minerals, vitamins, selenium and sulphur it contains improve collagen production, which in turn stimulates hair growth.

For best results, apply the juice daily in the evening and wash off thoroughly in the morning.

  • Coconut oil and almond oil

The versatile ingredients coconut and almond oil can extend the growth phases of the hairs when used regularly, which makes the eyebrow hairs longer and gives them more fullness (some use olive oil).

Eyebrow serum

For those who do not trust home remedies, there are other hair growth boosters: eyebrow serums. The market is teeming with them.

While the effect of many of these serums has been clinically confirmed, they can cause skin and eye irritation under certain circumstances and cost around £90, depending on the formulation and ingredients.

Basically, an eyebrow serum works in the same way as an eyelash serum: the eyelash and eyebrow growth cycle is extended by selected ingredients.

As a result, fewer hairs fall out, or more precisely, the hairs do not fall out for a longer period of time, which makes the eyelashes or brows appear fuller.

Products with the following ingredients have proven to be effective:

  • Peptides: peptides are known as "the building blocks of proteins" and help to thicken and densify the hairs.
  • Plant extracts: like the home remedies mentioned earlier, commercial eyebrow serums also make use of plant extracts such as Aloe Vera.
  • Caffeine: when derived from natural sources such as coffee seed oil, caffeine can be a real hair growth booster.
  • Hyaluronic acid: Many people know it for skin moisturising (as part of their skincare routine, conversations with their dermatologist), but it is also a real miracle cure for hair.

We recommend avoiding products containing prostaglandin analogues. Although the chemical compounds can significantly boost hair growth, they have hormonal effects on the consumer.

Side effects such as skin darkening, premature skin ageing and irritation can occur. The active ingredient can even change your eye colour! In addition, it is not safe to apply during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Since prostaglandin analogues are already banned in some countries, such as Canada and Sweden, we advise to stay away from them.

Nutrition for thicker eyebrows

A balanced and healthy diet is always good for your own well-being and appearance. A balanced diet can also have a positive effect on (eyebrow) hair growth.

Foods rich in vitamin A and vitamin B (and vitamin E), omega-3 and Biotin have been proven to support hair health.

Take a break!

Put the tweezers aside and avoid risk of over-plucking. By giving your eyebrows a few weeks or even months to grow, they can reach their full potential. This allows them time to grow back and return to their natural shape as well as possible.

Cosmetic measures

Of course, there are various cosmetic tricks to conceal patchy eyebrows.

Make-up

The most obvious of these is make-up. With skillful makeup you can create the appearance of full eyebrows in no time.

Simply define your brows with a thin eyebrow pencil, fill in the gaps between the hairs with a powder and finally set the masterpiece with an eyebrow gel or mascara. Makeup artists can even advise you with the help of tutorials.

When removing make-up with a mild make-up remover and warm water, make sure to treat the delicate eye area with care to avoid damaging eyebrows and eyelashes unnecessarily.

Microblading

The semi-permanent tattoo trend is widely popular, as it is also a quick and long-lasting solution for defined eyebrows. Unfortunately, however, the result rarely looks natural and the brows can assume a greyish hue over the months.

Unprofessional microblading can disfigure the face and, in the worst case, scar the eyebrow area, which can cause them to stop growing.

The secret weapon: eyebrow transplantation

Home remedies, eyebrow serums, make-up and microblading may be a temporary solution for some, but those who want a permanent solution to natural brows with little maintenance are best served by an eyebrow transplant.

How an eyebrow transplant works at HAIR & SKIN

An eyebrow transplant is closely related to a classic hair transplant. A doctor specialising in eyebrow transplants removes hair follicles from the donor area at the back of the head and transplants them back immediately after removal, one by one, in the desired eyebrow growth direction.

The results are naturally curved eyebrows that perfectly frame your face.

Unique to an eyebrow transplant: the hairs are removed from the lower donor area, where they are thinner and therefore more suitable for the eyebrow area than in the upper donor area. The result: natural, thick brows.
