In the telogen phase (or resting phase), the follicles stop all metabolic activities. During this period, the hair roots are undersupplied and therefore fall out. This telogen phase lasts about three months, and about 8-12 percent of all hairs are in this phase simultaneously. If the percentage is higher in the resting phase, there is visible hair loss, which can range from bald patches to complete baldness.
