Receding hairline is the typical precursor of hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). 60-80% of all men in Switzerland are affected by this type of hair loss. The receding hairline is usually followed by bald patches on the back of the head, resulting in a circular bald spot (tonsure).
